Ross Valley Charter School (RVC) parents and supporters were out on SFD Thursday morning welcoming visitors from the California Department of Education (CDE) to Fairfax for a site visit. The CDE is the staff of the State Board of Education, which authorized RVC as a public charter school. This 2-day site visit is part of their responsibility to oversee the school and hold RVC accountable to the promises laid out in the school’s petition.
Today, CDE representatives met with School Director Luke Duchene to review things like academic performance, goals and focus for the year (LCAP), professional development needed, teacher and staff evaluations, school safety plan (emergency preparedness, mandated reporting, emergency drill schedule). They also met with the front office staff to review enrollment processes, outreach activities, attendance procedures, and teacher credentialing records among other things. The CDE also discussed RVC’s process for identifying and assessing EL students, and English Language Development (ELD) instruction and support with RVC’s EL Coordinator. They also held a discussion with the RVC Board on how the board evaluates program effectiveness, priorities for future board focus, budgeting challenges and plans, facilities and Prop 39, governance and accessibility, attendance, and expiring member terms and recruitment. That’s not all! The CDE representatives are also meeting with teachers, parents and the Special Education team. They observed classroom instruction and dropoff and dismissal procedures, and they will hold an exit meeting with School Leadership Team & Board Members tomorrow.
Many thanks to all the volunteers, teachers, administrators, and especially Director Luke for all the hard work they do to make RVC successful!
